Raspberry Brooch
In the 1960s, Verdura created some of his most imaginative and life-like floral designs. In the sketch that inspired this Raspberry Brooch, Verdura re-imagined unripe raspberries as cabochon emeralds and sprinkled diamonds to create the effect of dewy leaves.

Growing up with an exotic garden at Villa Niscemi in Sicily, Verdura later become an amateur connoisseur of plant life, incorporating favorite species in his jewelry designs and miniature still-life paintings. Encyclopedias of flowers lined his library at work and served as frequent references for his sketches.
