In 1941, Verdura collaborated with Salvador Dali on a collection of five original pieces, each featuring a miniature painting by Dali and a jeweled mounting by Verdura. The collection, which was exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, inspired Verdura to continue exploring surrealist designs and in 1943, he created his iconic Dogwood Brooch, memorialized that same year in a painting by Salvador Dali for Harper’s Bazaar.
