Woven in Gold
In 1950, Cole Porter asked Verdura to design a cigarette case with a caned pattern he had admired on a custom Rolls Royce while visiting London. Verdura and Porter had been friends since the 1920s and it was Cole, along with Vincent Astor, who lent Verdura the capital to open his doors in 1939. Throughout his career, Verdura would create over twenty cigarette cases for his close friend, resulting in some of his most creative designs.
